+Exceptions to the statewide fox season are: Benton - unlawful to take or kill red foxes: Dyer, Lauderdale, Smith and Wilson - Open year round to hunting and trapping red and gray foxes; Green and Washington - unlawful to take or kill red and gray foxes.

Armadillo, Beaver, Coyote, Groundhog, English Sparrow, Nutria, Starling, Striped skunk - open  year-round, no limit.

Raccoon/Opossum - (Western Unit): Opens - Sept. 18, Closes - Feb. 15,  (Eastern Unit): Bag limit- 2 per person/per night.

(Eastern Unit): Opens - Nov. 4, Closes - Feb. 15, Bag limit - 1 per person/ per night. . (Except Tellico Bear Reserve - sunset (will advise dates) only) Raccoon hunters must wear fluorescent orange during bear season. .22 caliber short, long, and long rifle only legal weapon for raccoon hunting. Bag Limit 1 per person. 

Wild Turkey 

April 1 - May 14, 2006

Youth hunt - March 25-26, 2006

The bag limit is: statewide hunts (one bearded turkey per day, not to exceed four per season); WMA hunts (one bearded turkey per hunt, not to exceed two per season). The total bag and possession limit is four bearded turkeys per season including statewide and WMAs.

HUNTING HOURS: Thirty minutes before sunrise to sunset (unless otherwise listed).

TENNESSEE HUNTER ORANGE REQUIREMENTS


     Tennessee hunters must wear on the upper portion of their body and head a minimum of 500 sq. inches of daylight fluorescent orange visible from back and front while hunting big game (except archery only) and turkey hunts. (Hat and vest).

Fall, September 15 - December 15, 50 - 60 degrees during the day, higher elevations average 30 - 40 degrees in December; 30 - 40 degrees during the night. Snow likely in the higher elevations.
